I have just moved over from a cable company voip and am brand new to this ATA voip world.  I have an obi 202 with wifi up and running great with google voice.  I have an ooma on order and want to evaluate that too.  I am considering running the ooma as a backup/alternate and 911 system for the obi.  I don't want to pay for the google premium features of the ooma which are around 9.99 per month extra, especially since the obi seems to do everything I need. My concern that has me considering ooma as a back up is for when I am away on business trips.  If the obi went down, my fam doesn't have the technical wherewithal to get it back up.  I am sure others have thought this through.  Any thoughts about a good configuration for this setup?  I was thinking that i could pick up a second set of cordless phones for the ooma.

You could leave the Ooma connected AND have an Obi at the same time. The Obi could have an account like Voip.Ms where you pay per outbound minute and can spoof the same caller-id as the Ooma.

I don't have an Ooma because they didn't offer my area code in their cheap level of service.

I got the ooma and am having setup problems with it.  I have already spent about an hour online and on the phone with ooma tech support and its still not working.  I haven't had time to evaluate it yet but I thought that Ooma would be the more reliable solution given their online chat, live help lines, etc.  Ironically, the obi was easier to set up and has been rock solid.  Now i am rethinking my strategy and may just use the obi (with maybe a spare in the drawer in case it breaks).
