Heard about Google will use Hangouts to replace Google chat and will discontinue supporting Google Chat in future.
Will current Obi devices support Google Hangouts by just simply upgrading firmware? Or will we need to buy new device for supporting the new protocol?

This has been discussed over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over........................

You get the idea.  Search the forum.  Short answer is no one knows for sure.
Long live our new ObiLords!

Google Voice calling out was just added to Hangouts in Gmail not yet the Chrome extension. It has always worked with voip devices and apps though just wonky on PC till they finish it.

Before that Hangouts calling out update happened the people who run the Magic Jack hack for G-Voice had already came out with an update to use the new Hangouts call in & out feature. Pretty sure the Magic Jack is less powerful than an Obi.

So calling still works with the new Hangouts. Where Google Voice is merging too.

Even the old method is still active.

Check the bottom of page 2 and 1 posts by me: http://www.obitalk.com/forum/index.php?topic=5954.20

Also look at the top of page 2 for the info on the Magic Jack hack update.

Yes this has been discussed enough.
