Enhancement request: ***8 factory reset needs more idiot-proofing

(1/1)

Jon9999:
Enhancement request:

The ***8 method of factory resetting the OBi110 is quite dangerous. The entire dialog is as follows (roughly):

USER:  ***8
OBI AA:  Factory reset. Press 1 to confirm.
USER:  1
OBI: <resets>

Since it's quite common to dial **8 then 1 (then the area code and number) at the start of a GV call, ***8-1 is a very dangerous path since it may be invoked unintentionally.

Instead, the OBi should generate an on-the-fly random set of 4 or 6 digits that the user must echo back in order to trigger factory reset:

USER:  ***8
OBI AA:  Factory reset. To confirm, dial 946581 [random 6-digit string].
USER:  946581
OBI AA:  Factory reset confirmed. Please stand by.
OBI: <resets>

If the user dials any other digits, the AA should say "factory reset aborted" and exit.

If generating random digits on the fly is too challenging, then at least the requirement should be to confirm with a longer string of digits than just the number 1. It would be nice also to require that the AA PIN be entered as well, to prevent a casual user from resetting the device maliciously:

USER:  ***8
OBI AA:  Factory reset. To confirm, dial 946581 [random 6-digit string].
USER:  946581
OBI AA:  Factory reset confirmed. Please enter the Autoattendant PIN.
USER:  1234 [autoattendant PIN]
OBI AA:  Resetting. Please stand by.
OBI: <resets>

(Do OBi product managers read this forum for enhancement requests, or is there another route for conveying this?)

litensten:
*** invokes aa2.
I guess you could change *** to something else to invoke aa2.
Like ***1234:aa2
