I want to keep my land line and have already ported it over to TMobile.

I left Time Warner bc. their prices are ridiculous.

What companies do you guys suggest?

Shale

I like Anveo. Those with CallCentric and Voip.ms report liking their SIP providers. There are others too.

I agree with going to Anveo but why couldn't you port to GV? I know it isn't guaranteed but it worked for me a couple of months ago. Luckily if you have a prepay you can keep it on the Tmobile for cheap since their funds last 90 days (last I checked). That's what I did.

I'd check in with the GV forums for ideas if you haven't already.

Greg do you live in Charlotte as well?  GV just says it's not supporting my area

Ooops! This number appears to be from an area we don't currently support.

With that being said.  I already have a Google Voice number that I use for all my promotional and web marketing.  Would it be possible to use my current GV number as my LAND line and port my T Mobile (Old Land Line Number) to a VOIIP service using the OBI 110?

I think you are asking if you can port your GV to your local phone company and bring in calls to the Line port of your OBi110. I don't know.

Also consider that you could port the T-mobile number to a VOIP provider which would provide 911 as well as other connectivity. That would save a lot of money and get you more features.

I understand that a classic wireline phone has advantages including working with no power as well as working when the internet goes out. On the other hand, you might be able to use a cellphone to deal with those situations.

Yes, I'm in Charlotte. I ported from BellSouth to TMobile to GV. I'm not sure about your last question. I'm sleep hungover atm. Without reading that other thread referenced above, it sounds like your port to Tmobile hasn't settled down yet. I'm wondering whose database it is in. For me it took one day to get it to TMobile and one day to transfer it to GV.

How long ago was the process? You might want to call TWC and see if your number is still showing as being in their database.

You could potentially also have problems porting your number to a VOIP Provider also, since "WINDSTREAM NORTH CAROLINA, INC. " seem to be the only CLEC serving that particular Rate Center

You should check with Anveo, Callcentric, VOIP.ms, etc. to see if they can port your number or wait a few more days and check to see if Goggle Voice can indeed port your number.  Of course you can just drop the number all together and get a brand new number (GV or otherwise) and use that number as your new "landline" number.

Thank you very much for your post.  I did call TW and they said the port hasn't fully been completed and cycled through all the channels.  I will probably just keep the number for a few more moths on a T mobile pre paid and let all calls go to VM.

I will wait a few days and try to port with google again!

Available options for using your existing mobile number:

Get Google Voicemail for your existing mobile number

Keep your existing number with your carrier and get the lite version of Google Voice which includes some of the most popular features like online voicemail and voicemail transcriptions.

Get Google Voice Lite
Porting your mobile number to Google Voice is unavailable
Your mobile number can not be ported at this time.

I think it will work as soon as TWC says it is done or just by trying again like you said. It was very quick for me and I was on 704-392.

Voip.Ms currently has free porting for US numbers.

Do you have a better link with that offer? Here is what I found:
http://wiki.voip.ms/article/Porting_a_Number
https://www.anveo.com/faq.asp?code=faq_did_portin
http://www.callcentric.com/faq/17

That said, it is not sure that the GV porting will not take place after the porting to cell is complete. There is more than one thread on this attempt to port.

Ugg, still not able to port!

Does the fact I had my other GV account forward to this number make a difference?

I would think that the Google Voice forum people would know more about the things that can affect a porting of a number to GV than the OBiTalk forum participants.

Good idea.
