outgoing calls initiated from AA have audio in one direction
(1/1)
lk96:
The issue I experience is that, when I initiate outgoing calls from the phone
attached to obi, outgoing calls are setup properly.
However, if I first dial into the auto-attendant from my cell phone (or even from a voip client),
and I attempt to initiate the exact same call, it seems that the call has audio only
in the incoming direction (I hear them, then don't hear me).
I'm attaching two screen shots that show the calls in progress in the two cases I described:
1. from a directly attached phone (it works properly)
2. through the AA (the screenshot shows the two legs of the call: from my cellphone to the AA, and
from the AA to the remote destination. (there is only incoming audio)
The one thing to notice is that the codec negotiated in the first case (calling from the attached phone)
is G711A (my remote number is in Europe). However, in the 2nd case, it seems that
the Obi does not negotiate G711A with remote end. In fact, you can see in the screenshot
that the TX codec is G711U, while the incoming codec is empty. Can it be that
when the codecs on the two legs are different, Obi doesn't handle it properly? or simply
that the Obi is not receiving messages from other end so it doesn't set the Tx side at all?
And if so, why ?
Has anybody experienced this? This scenario used to work mostly fine few months back.
The Obis involved in this case are the 202 and run the latest firmware.
I have two Obi202 that are placed in different places (one is at home office and the other at the office) and they are behind different firewalls using different IP providers. So the networking
part is not the issue. My Voip trunk provider is Voxbeam.
Any suggestions, ideas ?

PS: I'm experiencing the same issue when I dial into the AA through a VOIP client and not by making a call into the AA.
PPS: Above I say that it used to work mostly fine because I have hit this issue
with one direction audio occassionally. But it was very intermittent and may go away
after a restart. The issue I report now is 100% consistent and happens always.

I have been testing and experimenting quite a bit since I posted this topic to figure out
what could be the cause of the problem.
One thing I noticed (when comparing the config of different Obis I use) is that the problem
was present in Obi boxes where the SIP agent port was set to something different than 5060.
In all my boxes I had properly setup port forwarding and outgoing calls placed from the phone handset
were working fine. Somehow though outgoing calls placed through the AA were not.
I modified my configs to always use port 5060 on the SPx that I expect to place outgoing calls
from the AA and things started working.
I don't know (neither have the time) to debug further, but if someone else have more insights or ideas, please
feel free to post.

I don't now why the exact port # would make a difference (it shouldn't). But for now, my issues seem to
be addressed.
