New to Obi. Any reason not to port # to GV vs. VoIP provider?

I'm migrating away from Ooma. My device broke, and they won't grandfather me into the $0 plan.
I was going to sign up for ObiVoice. When it comes to porting my Ooma number, shouldn't I just port it to GV - and then forward it to whatever VoIP service I choose (e.g. ObiVoice)? That way I could switch VoIP providers and just change the forward at GV.
Or am I missing something else?
Thanks.

Yes. permanent call forwarding is generally not such a good idea but it is a real trouble with GV- increasingly unreliable.

This is exactly the advice I needed.
OK - will port to the provider I decide upon - probably obivoice.
Thanks.

I'm considering obivoice as well. Have you tried it? How about the call quality?

Starting using it yesterday. So far, so good
