Has anyone manage to setup a new Google Voice account?

Hi, first off apologies if this is not the correct sub-forum to post this question, but it seemed like a good place to start. Also, I did try and search for this, but couldn't find any relevant information.

I'm trying to set up an OBi100 to work with a new Google voice account. The issue I'm running into is that under my Voice account settings, there is no longer an option to forward calls to Google chat, which seems to be a necessary step to get this to function correctly. I can only imagine it was removed around the time that support for OBi was officially dropped by Google.

I was just wondering if anyone knew a way around the issue or had successfully set up an OBi with GV as a provider after May 15th of this year.

Thanks

Taoman

I had heard new GV accounts no longer had Google Chat. Checking that box only enables incoming calls. It doesn't affect outgoing calls. Since Obihai is still supporting Google Voice as a Service Provider and Google hasn't pulled the plug on XMPP yet you should be able to make outgoing calls via Google Voice.........in theory.

It would be interesting to know if outgoing calls worked for you thru Google Voice. If so, you could always get a free incoming line from Callcentric, IPComms, or IPKall and then forward your GV number to that free DID and use Google Voice for outgoing calls.

I used to be set up that way with Callcentric so I could get free CNAM on incoming calls.

Hey, thanks a lot for responding. Unfortunately, I can't get outgoing calls to work either. When I try dialing a number I get beeps that usually indicate that a number is unavailable/disconnected. My OBi dashboard seems to indicate that (at least it thinks) GV is set up correctly as seen below and I can make outgoing calls from a browser using google voice.

I ran through the setup exactly as it is laid out in the online setup guide, minus the one step that I mentioned in my first post. Could just be that I'm out of luck and picked the wrong time to try this out, but I definitely appreciate your advice.

I set my wife up recently on my Obi 110 with GVoice and CallCentric. Google will have you to set up with Google+. I did this and then "deleted" her Google+ profile. You will need the "GoogleVoiceAndVideoSetup" download from Google. Install that and set up your "Chat" settings in Voice and you should be in business. At least that's what I did for her.

Also don't forget to make the first call from your Gmail account.

Hi cluckercreek,

THANK YOU!

That worked brilliantly. It took some clicking around for me to find the various options, but here's what I did that worked (which might hopefully help someone in the future who comes looking for the same answer). I'm not sure if the first step is absolutely necessary, I'm just re-stating what I did

1) Download Google Voice and Video Setup from here

https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=2&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0CCkQFjAB&url=https%3A%2F%2Fdocs.google.com%2Fleaf%3Fid%3D0B7MsLh4aHhnAMmE4ZjQ4N2MtYTQzYy00MzcyLThmMTgtYjNhMWY3ZDc4OTll%26hl%3Den&ei=a0zkU-eRJtK1yASwuYGYAQ&usg=AFQjCNH6a6eTM-FMED2LphpwvJS8xJJLhg&sig2=s-pK9OQMAoGUf1acoSgVog&bvm=bv.72676100,d.aWw

2) Go to your Gmail account and revert your hangouts to old chat as shown here

3) Make a phone call from your Gmail window once it reverts back to classic Google chat

4) When you open up/refresh your Google voice settings page, you should see the option to forward to Google chat.

Now incoming and outgoing calls are both working for me without the need of any additional VOIP providers (for the time being knock on wood)
