I bought an OBi100 about a year ago but never got the opportunity to set it up.  Now I'd like to set it up for a family member and was wondering if we'd be able to setup a Google Voice account and get a new GV number and setup the OBi?

I read about people still using GV with OBi but was not sure if that was just for old GV numbers or is you could setup a new GV account, get a new GV number.

Great will be trying to set that up tonight.  I'll look for a good tutorial on how to set it up.  Just had my family member sign up at GV.   Thanks!

Have a read through http://www.obitalk.com/forum/index.php?topic=8456.0 first.  Any third party tutorials may now be out of date.

Thanks for that link.  The instructions that the one poster on there gives are not found elsewhere or given directly by OBi?  As I have not found any put out by OBi that match what is stated in this thread you provided.

edit: further searching I did find this tutorial http://www.obihai.com/tutorial1
wondering if it is up to date?

g725s,

The link at:  http://www.obihai.com/tutorial1
appears to me to still be helpful until you get to the following steps under

"Configuring Google Voice on your OBi."

Step:  http://www.obihai.com/tutorial22

Where you are instructed to:
"Then, enter your Gmail username and password (this account must be the same one you used to create your Google voice number)."

At this step, use the information in the link:

Tried to get a new GV #, slim pickings.... nothing even close to my location.

There was a very large supply of numbers added last month.  Of course, it didn't cover every single location in the country.  What local calling exchange (rate center) are you trying to search?

If nothing pops up, you can port in a prepaid mobile number, although there is no guarantee that every mobile number can be ported in.  Here are the instructions and FAQs:

Trying to setup Goggle Voice with my Obi 100.  I am following the setup instructions on the Obihai website here and they have changed things at Google.  I get to the part of the instruction that say to forward calls to Google Chat but that seems to be removed from the page I'm seeing at Google in my new account there.

See this link below.  I do not see the option to select Google Chat...

also the next page it say to choose Advanced setting.  I don't see that option either.

I'm assuming that they have changed things at Google since the tutorial at obihai.com was written.

You won't see that Google Chat "pseudo phone" entry unless you first use Google Chat to make an outbound phone call from Gmail.

Chat is obsolete and it is being phased out, but, as of today, at least, you can still use it.

You need to first successfully download and install the web browser plugin, and then enable it to "always activate", if you are using Firefox, and then you should see your avatar (the small head and shoulders or your photo, if you've added one), on your  Gmail inbox page.  Click the avatar.  If it says "revert to old chat", then click that.  If it says "try the new Hangouts", then don't click that.  Now, click the telephone handset icon to make a call.  There's more to the setup than this, including configuring your computer's audio devices.  If you can't figure it out, post over on the Google Voice forum.
