OBI 202 + POLYCOM 335 + SIP 4 IP Phone Setup

Greetings,

I hope i am in the right forum section also i am new to trying to setup something like this. I am looking to setup an OBI 202 4 lines with IP Phones Polycom 335 as a office setup solution. Ex: 4 phones capable of 2 lines incoming an outgoing with extension on all phones. Can anyone assist me with how would be ideal way to setup and if possible. Basically is it possible to do this with Google Voice as a provider? Any help or guide would be greatly appreciated!

The OBi202 is not a PBX, so I don't know if we can get it to work the way you want.
You can register an IP phone to the OBi202, but it's not like a normal extension.
Outbound calls work like a normal extension.
Inbound calls have to be routed to the phone's IP address and port#.
Do you have GV setup?
I don't know the max number of concurrent calls you can have on GV.
If I remember correctly, I tested two outbound and one inbound simultaneous calls.
Do you have an analog phone to test the setup?
Let's start with one phone to see if it works.

Assumption: GV defined on SP1
Use OBi Expert to make these changes.

OBi202:
Service Providers -> ITSP Profile D  SIP -> ProxyServer : 127.0.0.1
Voice Services -> SP4 Service -> AuthUserName : OBi202
Voice Services -> SP4 Service -> AuthPassword : OBi202PW
Voice Services -> SP4 Service -> X_RegisterEnable : (unchecked)
Voice Services -> SP4 Service -> X_ServProvProfile : D
Voice Services -> SP4 Service -> X_Proxy: Checked  
Voice Services -> SP4 Service -> X_InboundCallRoute:
{OBi202>(Msp1):sp1}

Voice Services -> SP1 Service -> X_InboundCallRoute:
ph,sp4(0@192.168.1.110:5060;ui=$1)

Speed Dial#10: sp4(0@192.168.1.110:5060;ui=8005551212)

Change 192.168.1.110:5060 the IP address and port of your phone.
This will route inbound calls to OBi phone port1 and the IP phone.

IP Phone:
Proxy: 192.168.1.100  (IP address of the OBi202)
Proxy Port: 5063     (X_UserAgentPort of OBi202 SP4 trunk)
UserID: OBi202
Password: OBi202PW

Dialing 10 (for speed dial 10) from phone port#1 should ring the IP phone.

This is a general OBi Expert guide:
From the OBiTalk dashboard click Edit Profile on the left column.
At the bottom of the page check "Enable Obi Expert..."
Click Submit Query.
Now you can go directly to OBi Expert from the dashboard.

Click OBi Dashboard.
On the right of your OBixxx is an icon with a red E.
Click on it to enter OBi Expert.

To navigate click on the titles with the +
Then click on a sub-title
An example click on Service Providers
Then click ITSP Profile A General
There are 2 boxes to the right of each setting
To change a setting uncheck the box under ObiTalk Setting
Then uncheck the box under Device Default
Now change the setting
After you have made all the necessary changes for that page, click Submit at the bottom of the page.
OBiTalk will download the configuration changes to the OBi and reboot it.
Wait until this process is complete before continuing to the next page.

This is a bad idea for several reasons.

As Robert posted, the OBI devices are not designed to be used as a PBX, which is what you really need.

Google Voice is not designed nor intended for business use -- it's not meant to be a source of free VoIP trunks; it's an integrated call forwarding system and message management system for individual/personal use.

There is no guaranteed service level nor customer support for GV.  When, not if, something goes wrong, your office phones will be out of service, thus impacting your business, and potentially losing more money than you would be saving from using GV.

A much better approach for a small business, depending on your own technical skills and desire to spend time being a telephone technician, is to either use the PBX-like features of a reliable SIP VoIP service provider, or to build your own PBX.

For example, you could use Callcentric, and set up separate extensions for each of your IP phones, set up call handling rules, and even set up an IVR for inbound calls.  Voip.ms is another great choice.

Obiplus may do what you want. I have not used it, myself. There is a free tier which supports a limited number of phones.

Hello,

I am currently in possession of a obi202 that is working fine with my cordless panasonic phone. I purchased a polycom vvx 300. I plugged the cat 5 cable into the phone and the other end into the LAN socket of the OBI and get a ring tone but other than that still cannot make or receive any calls with the polycom.

to go into expert configuration.

I went into expert configuration and it was a bit challenging/intimidating navigating around in this. Also, I was advised not to go there by tech support because it could potentially 'break' the obi if i did something wrong. 

Bottom line is that I still cannot make heads or tails of this. Is there anyone that can assist?
