Title: Google Voice number
Post by: wickuma on September 14, 2016, 10:38:55 PM
Hi,

I am living in outside of US and one of my family member is in USA. i was thinking to get a OBi200 so i could call her using google voice.

in order to do that, do i need to have voice number on my GV account ? without a voice number on GV account, can i configure OBi200 with my GV account ?

the main reason that i am not having a number is that they do not issue a voice number to emails outside of US.

FYI, I only need to make outgoing calls only.

Google Voice's inbound telephone numbers are intended to be issued only to users located within the USA.

You can, however, make outbound calls using an OBi with a Google account.  Your calls will not have an outbound caller ID to display to the called party (they'll see "Unknown" or "Private caller" instead).

Of course, there are plenty of other service providers you can use with your OBi, instead of Google Voice.  Many of us here are happy with the service from Callcentric, voip.ms, Phonepower, and others.

For your application, forget GV.  Just get two OBI 200 series.  They each have a 9-digit number printed on the bottom in big numbers you can dial directly.  You don't need any phone service, just the two OBIs connected to the internet in each country.  Well.. plus the obvious phone on each end.
