Title: How to access OBi202's webpage
Post by: FirmwareUpdate_110 on December 12, 2017, 08:26:05 PM
during setup, there is an "i" button that shows that I can access the device's webpage by typing in the URL 192.xxx.x.xx.  I tried just the numbers an I tried http://192.xxx.x.xx to no avail.  It timed out.  And I have tried multiple times.

I read in another post on manually updating the firmware, it states:
"...
Access the web page of the OBi device (OBi via Internet/WAN Port):

From a phone attached to the PHONE port of the OBi dial * * * 1
The IP address of the OBi will be read to you
Open a new browser window on your PC and enter the IP address of the OBi.
             E.g.  192.168.1.110
..."

The IP address over the phone is different from the "i" button above.  When I tried this #, I get "Requested URL was not found"

My OBi202 is through a router.  What is the proper URL to get access to the OBi202's web page?  Or how to find out the correct URL?

TIA

Unlike other models the OBi202 contains a router which by default is enabled between the WAN and LAN ports. Also by default, access to the onboard web server from the WAN port is disabled. It can be enabled by dialling ***0 then 30# then follow the audio prompts to enter and save a 1. http://www.obihai.com/OBiDeviceAdminGuide#_Toc367543042. You may also wish to change from router to bridge mode. See the next item in the table in the link.

Be aware that you should NOT use both the onboard web server and the portal to configure your device.

Thanks for the reply.

Today, when I logon to the Dashboard and click on the device, it shows me the option to make s to the phone port.

Regardless, how do I make change  to the default mention above using the portal -- I assume the Portal means ObiTalk?  When I click on the Settings icon  or the SP1 link for the device, I see the options in the attached file.

With respect to router vs bridge mode, what is the difference?  [My internet setup is Obi202 > Switch > Router > Cable Modem.  I am almost exclusively on the wired internet.  On rare occasion, I use wireless.  During travel, I am on wireless]

Speaking of wireless:  If I take the OBi with me while traveling, how do I secure the transmission with VPN -- since many hotels are getting ride of their wired internet and only offer wireless internet?

Also I read somewhere that the settings in the Portal overrides settings done in other ways (like over the phone?).  Is that correct?  If yes, does this "rule" applies to the changes mentioned above for the access to webpage?

TIA

You can make the change to enable access from the WAN port in more than one way but the easiest is to use the phone to dial the ***0 sequence I already gave you.

The basic mode on the portal gives you access to only very basic settings.  You can get to the full range by using Expert mode.  Click on the cogwheel containing the red E. (See the screenshot.  If you don't have that icon, click on 'Edit Profile', scroll to the bottom and tick the box 'Enable OBi Expert Entry from Dashboard'.)

The default condition is that settings made on the portal are automatically downloaded to your OBi and replace whatever was there.  That can be changed such that you can make changes via the OBi's onboard local web server instead of via the portal but there is usually no good reason to do so.  Even when you configure the OBi from the portal you can use the onboard server to look at the settings, especially the 'Call History' which is not available via the portal.

There is not much difference between router mode and bridge mode.  Bridge mode does circumvent the initial point you raised about the 192.168 address not working.  The OBi becomes a 3 port ethernet switch.  The two external ports become equal.  (The third port is internal for the OBi's connection.)

The OBi ATA's have no inherent support for VPNs.  You need a separate box or maybe some software on your laptop between the hotel Wi-Fi and the laptop's ethernet jack.  That is outside my realm of expertise.

I'm using PhoneAmego software on a Macintosh (http://www.sustworks.com/pa_guide/OBi110.html) to have Caller ID broadcast. To do so, the Internet WAN address must be enabled.

I'm just wondering if there are any security concerns here. Should the default password for that interface be changed (and if so, how - I see an AdminPassword and UserPassword on the interface)? Or does it not really matter at all?

Yes you can change the Admin password there.  Gives you a bit more security should someone gain access to your LAN.
