Well, the current product (for several years now) is the OBiWiFi 5G.  It works just fine.

Has anyone ever tried a generic USB wifi and got it to work?

A generic USB Wi-Fi dongle will NOT work.  The firmware contains only the drivers needed for the chipsets in the OBi branded dongles.  The ATA looks for the specific Vendor ID and Product ID of the OBi branded dongles.

I am successfully using the original 2.4 GHz OBiWIFI with an OBi1032 phone.

What problem are you having?

No problem. I was thinking of using one and wanted to know if there was any issues. Thank you to those who responded.
