Title: "No service available", "Backing off... authentication error"
Post by: VulcanTourist on September 12, 2011, 09:47:04 AM
Frequently when I check the status of the Obi110 I would see "Backing off (xxxs) authentication error".  Since it seemed to be working and to my knowledge had never been unable to make or receive a call, I didn't think it was a problem that needed pursuing.  However, this morning I found out different: I needed to make a call and for 15 minutes was prevented, with "no service available".  I was eventually able to make the call, but WTF?

I have read another thread or two that seem to discuss the same or similar issue.  I have checked and verified the accuracy of the following:

Service Providers|ITSP Profile A|General|SignalingProtocol
Voice Services|SP1 Service|AuthUserName
Voice Services|SP1 Service|AuthPassword
Voice Services|SP1 Service|X_SkipCallScreening

I don't know that this has bee happening "every two days" as others have claimed, and I have never seen the status "service not configured".  What I have been seeing is frequent if not constant "backing off" conditions whenever I happen to check the device, either directly or through ObiTalk.  Clearly I need to identify and fix the cause.

Who is your VOIP provider?  I use VOIP.ms and have not experience this issue.  What is your Registration Period interval?  Maybe you want to set it to something like 60.  Do you have "Keep Alive" Enable (30 secs)?.

Also, somelse mention that they set their:

Note that I was having issues with the Obi intermittently losing registration until I checked both boxes
Service Providers -> ITSP Profile B-> SIP -> "X_ProxyServerRedundancy"  and
Service Providers -> ITSP Profile B-> SIP -> "X_SecondaryRegistration".

Try the above to see if it helps with your problem.  Do you have a Static IP Address for your OBi unit?  Does you Public WAN IP changes very often?

Google Voice is my provider.  The RegistrationPeriod is what ObiTalk configured, 60 seconds. X_KeepAliveEnable is unchecked and Default.  Those final two items are unchecked, default, and grayed-out for me.  Don't I have to abandon use of ObiTalk before I make such changes?

I guess I have the equivalent of a static IP address, but I still use DHCP; I set up a router rule to always assign the same IP address to it.  I have AT&T DSL; I'm not sure how often my public IP changes.

And the above post, yet another example of the recent spam that Obihai is incapable or unwilling to stop, is a secondary reason why I will never touch another Obihai product with a ten-foot pole.  They can't even figure out how to block spam from their own forums.  This fake user registered just two days ago, and is already a "Senior Member" with 401 posts, more senior than me and with an order of magnitude more posts... in two days.
