I have a google voice number, OBI 200, and a printer/fax/scanner with WiFi capability.

Can someone tell me the detailed steps to set up a fax number (use google voice number as fax number)?

Thanks.

Does the printer/scanner/fax have a phone line socket or cable?

Printer should have both, but I think I can only use phone line socket, since I use cable to connect OBI to cable modem, the only left in OBI in phone line socket.

However, see the attached file, I have trouble to add OBI device to google voice number. This OBI device is used for fax machine, NOT home phone, it shows ".... phone handset...", which should not be involved.

Thanks.

As far as GV is concerned the fax machine is a phone.

As far as connecting the fax machine to the OBi is concerned, the OBi regards the fax as a phone. (There may be some later config changes advisable to optimise fax transmission/reception.)

As far as the fax machine is concerned, the PHONE socket on the OBi is a POTS line socket. Consult the fax manual for how to wire it up.

You must connect a phone or some means of dialling the **5xxxx code to register the OBi with the portal dashboard. You won't need the phone plugged in to the OBi once registered.

I think most fax machines have a keyboard for dialing out. Thus you MAY be able to dial using the fax as a telephone keypad. It may or may not send "*" codes out, but worth a try if there is no handset available.

I wrote the words "or some other means of dialling" to include the possibility of being able to dial using the fax machine.

If you have problems with faxing see post #2 from azrobert in the thread below:

Before using the solution above, I tried two faxmodems including the USRobotics Courier Dual Standard vEverything and it always disconnects after the first page at 4800-14.4k, it did successfully send at 2400 but with *01 before the number which is the solution above, it sent successfully at 14.4k on a Obi202 just like how I used GV from my landline!
