Reset ObiWifi after changing network SSID

Hi,

We have an OBi200 + OBiWifi.

The SSID of our network changed and we lost access to the OBi. I tried factory resetting it but the OBiWiFi_Setup network doesn't show in my laptop's available networks. I tried dialing *27 but it just beeps and hangs up.

Unfortunately we don't have wired access to the router, only wifi.

To reset I followed these instructions: https://www.obitalk.com/info/faq/Troubleshooting-sec/How-to-Factory-Reset

To set up I'm following these: https://www.obitalk.com/info/faq/OBiWiFi-sec/How-do-I-set-up-OBiWiFi

Does anyone have a suggestion as to how to regain access to the OBi via wifi?

Cheers,
Ben

It should just work.  But, given that it doesn't, the alternative would be to temporarily connect the OBi to Ethernet.  Since you said you don't have an Ethernet connection at your location, you can either take it somewhere else to set it up, or you can temporarily bridge your laptop's WiFi connection to its own Ethernet port, and plug the OBi into your laptop via an Ethernet cable.

For example:  http://www.windowscentral.com/how-set-and-manage-network-bridge-connection-windows-10

After connecting it this way, pick up the phone and key ***1 and listen to the IP address read to you.  Enter that address into your browser to connect to the OBi.

Once you can log into the OBi's internal web server, you can follow my instructions in the post linked below to set it up manually:

Thanks Steve. What could be wrong for it not to show up in the list of wifi networks?

I don't know.  There have been a handful of reports of this symptom over the years, with no clear cause/effect.  One possibility to eliminate is a down-level version of firmware on the device.  Of course, you can't upgrade the firmware if you can't connect to the device, so I really suggest that you connect it via Ethernet first, and then upgrade the firmware.  If I recall correctly, one of the firmware builds had a WiFi bug (no, I can't remember which version).

Use this latest (as of today) version:  http://fw.obihai.com/OBi202-3-1-1-5491.fw

Did you just recently buy the OBiWiFi adapter?  Is it the original one, or the new 5GHz-capable one?  If it is still within the return period, send it back and get the new one.

Unfortunately it's too late to return :/ It's the 2.4ghz version. I'll try to find a way to connect it to ethernet... Thanks for your help.

I know it has been a long time, but I just had this exact same problem.  By using an OBi connected phone and dialing *27, it does beep and hang up. But then I was able to see the WiFi network called "OBiWiFi_Setup" in my networks list.

Try again now. It seems to have been resolved
