I have phone service with bright house and want to change to something cheaper. Cheaper is better. I want to port my home phone number to one of these. Would obi work ok? I know i need a 911 service but aside from that am confused. If i understand correctly i have to pay obi $10 a year? Is it reliable? Is it easy to port my number over? Thank you for any help!

You don't understand correctly on at least two points:

1.  You don't have to pay OBi anything.  The $10 per year after the first year is an optional payment for tech support from Obi.  Whether that is worth the money is questionable given its quality versus that of the user support here on these forums.

2.  Obihai supply the hardware.  They do not provide phone service.  There are umpteen Internet Telephony Service Providers (ITSPs) who use the industry standards that the OBi hardware conforms to.  The OBi hardware also supports Google Voice.

Google voice is the most popular, correct? I'll probably go with them. Is there any chance that they will be gone one day? Even if they do, there are other companies I can use, right? E911 doesnt seem very expensive either. As long as the porting process isnt super ridiculous i can do it, i think. How much should i expect to pay per month? I'm hoping like a buck or two. Thank you so much!

You didn't say what kind of usage you desire.    I have been using Obi's basic ANVEO package (with E911 included) with no problems for nearly 3 years.

You can check here to see if your # will port.  I think it's $15.
