Call Quality Problems

Been using this for quite some time.  All of a sudden people are complaining that my voice is fading in and out and sometimes disappearing.  Could appreciate any help on this.

There are things you can try:

- Use a router or switch with QoS capability.

- Replace the phone cord that connects the phone to the OBi phone port with a reverse phone cord made for voice. You can find them cheap on eBay.

- Move the phone (or the cordless phone base) to a different location with a different AC outlet.

You didn't mention who you are using for a service provider. If the unit has been working Ok for quite some time and this issue just developed, it could be a service provider issue. There were issues with Callcentric for a week or so and they made a few set up change recommendations. You may also want to simply unplug both your router and the Obi for a few minutes. Plug the router back in first and give it 5 minutes or so before powering the Obi back up.

Breaking up (bits missing) is a symptom of packet loss - Quality of Service issue at router (not prioritizing voice traffic over other traffic) or congestion at ISP will do that.

Phone cord explanation by @LeoKing sounds dubious.  Never heard of a "reverse phone cord made for voice". Phone cords are by definition made for voice.

Cordless phone issues (interference, low battery, out of range) are a possible explanation. Fading only occurs in analog cordless phones: digital ones drop out (and mimic Quality of Serivce issues).

Assuming your provider has an Echo Test number, use it to test whether the problem is related to network traffic, or phone location.
