One feature I'd love to see for my OBI110 would be the ability to initiate a callback via an SMS message (could use Gvoice's SMS service).

Other control features would also be nice, but mainly the ability for the Obi to call me back and call the number that was SMS'd to it (from a known number)

A second best would be URL control, but that would require a data plan.  This would be useful where one has data but at insufficient speed to handle a call over data.

(if you haven't guessed it already I have unlimited incoming on my mobile)

Thanks!  I LOVE my Obi!!!! (I have 2 and have setup many more for family & friends... the Obi is an AMAZING product)

I think your best bet would be to use callback of some sort. Check this out you don't need to wait for them to add this feature you just need to change some settings on your Obi.  It isn't controlled by SMS but it does what you want without paying for outgoing calls.  You initiate the call by calling your Obi and hanging up before it goes to voice mail.  Then the Obi will call you back.  At that point you dial the number you want and Obi makes the call out.

If someone were so inclined it would be simple enough to implement using Google Voice, appengine, and the Obi  http://code.google.com/p/gvcallscheduler/

One feature I'd love to see for my OBI110 would be the ability to initiate a callback via an SMS message

could use http://anveo.com/sms

or anveo

HTTP callback URL

anveo SIP to SMS gateway  [think: SIP SIMPLE ]

http://anveo.com/api.asp?code=apihelp_sms_receive_sip

QuoteAnveo can deliver incoming SMS Text messages received on Anveo phone number over SIP.

Anveo can deliver SMS over SIP using 2 SIP Methods.
* MESSAGE SIP Method
* INVITE SIP Method

SIP Headers

For INVITE SIP Method Anveo uses X-ANVEO-SMS-FROM, X-ANVEO-SMS-TO and X-ANVEO-SMS-MESSAGE SIP headers to pass SMS related information.

For MESSAGE SIP Method Anveo uses X-ANVEO-SMS-FROM SIP header to pass sender's phone number.

At the moment DNS SRV is not supported and thus SIP URI MUST include fully qualified domain name (or IP) and port. For example: smshandler@mydomain.com:5060

If your SIP device is registered with Anveo.com please be aware that SIP registration is ignored for SMS delivery over SIP.
