Hi,

I have configured GV on SP1 on my OBI100 Device.
When calling people it shows an Un-known Number and lot of my friends keep saying that it shows as a Private Number or City Name when they receive the call.

I checked GV and could not see any option to display my Name when i call.

I would like to know is there any setting in OBI to configure SP1 so that when ever i place a call from SP1 using GV, people who receive the call see my Name rather than Private Number or City/Town Name?

Please help.

Thanks,
Venky

Rick

Nope.  Google Voice only passes the number.  Documented all over the forum.

To further expand on this, it's not only GV. All phone providers, traditional landline, Cell and VoIP providers work this way.

It's how the phone system in North America evolved from handling only the number (Caller ID) to be number and name (CNAM). The number is always passed. The name is looked up 'locally' by each phone company when they receive a call (in traditional terms, the company providing the dial tone).

You can use these links to 'dip' onto the CNAM databases to see what name is associated with a number:

Thank you for the replies.
But when i call up with my GV Number lot of my friends either seeing it as Private Number or City Name as "Watertown".

How do i change it to display atleast the Phone Number and not as Watertown.

lhm.

Go here: http://www.whitepages.com , then do a reverse lookup on your GV # and claim it by adding your info+name.

Also apply here. http://www.listyourself.net/

It will take a few weeks/months for that info to populate other databases.

Worked for me.

Doing what lhm says will work, but will give that info to everyone.

Your friends can also program your info into their phones...
