I am helping a friend with their OBI200. They need to free up a wired port on their router so I was thinking about putting the OBI200 on their wireless. I have a few USB wireless adapter at home that I don't use. Does anyone know if I can use one of them instead of having to buy a OBIWiFi? I heard that the official one has a realtek chipset. One of my adapters might just be a realtek one.

Now I understand that the official stand will be that NO other adapter will work... But I would appreciate any help with using what I already have.

I don't think anybody got a non-OBi WiFi to work.
You can use a WiFi adapter on another piece of equipment to open a port on the router.

Buy a switch.
I just bought a TP-Link gigabit 8 port switch for $20 and I'm happy with it.
Switches are as low as $9 at Newegg.

If you have an old router, you can use it as a switch.
