I have an OBI202 i San Jose with an ATT Uverse DSL connectiion.  This works very well.  However, I have also a home in the Sierras with DSL internet provided by Sierratel Internet.  Each time I plug either an OBI202 or an OBI 110, the DSL connection becomes extremely un-reliable.  It returns to a more reliable status when I disconnect the OBI. Would anyone have any idea why that would be?

Thank you

Shale

So the problem is that the non-VOIP stuff does not work well in the Sierras, or is the VOIP phone calling also a problem?

It is unlikely to be the cure, but you might try putting your OBi into 100 Mbit full duplex ethernet mode as described in http://www.obitalk.com/forum/index.php?topic=5454.0

It should not hurt, and it could help.

You might also comment on the upstream bandwidth for the problem DSL.

The DSL is not very reliable to start with.  Plugging the OBI is guaranteed to make it fail.  I have set it up already as per the instructions.  By the way, it does so whether I use the Sierratel modem, or my own modem (NetGear).

What speed are you paying for?  and what speed do you measure?

You imply that you have a problem by just attaching the OBi to your network, let alone trying to make a call using the OBi.

Does the OBi obtain an ip address from the modem you are attaching it to or from an external router that is attached to the modem?  Can you access the OBi configuration by attaching a computer to the OBi202 router's LAN, or to an external router that both devices are attached to?

I would document your bandwidth available by running several bandwidth speed tests using a service like http://www.speedtest.net/ from your computer at different points in time.

I would try to pin down what feature of the OBi is causing the problem with your "not very reliable" dsl service.  If you have a better idea of what is causing the problem then maybe there is a way to mitigate the problem.

I would try to see if the problem is occuring with the OBiTalk Provisioning, the OBiTalk Service, or the configurations you have setup either on SP1, SP2, SP3, or SP4.

You can disable/enable the services and run some tests.

As you know, if you configure the OBi manually on the OBi web page you need to disable the Auto Provisioning as outlined in this thread: http://www.obitalk.com/forum/index.php?topic=61.msg109#msg109

My DSL speed is up to 5MB/s down, and a pitiful 340kb/s up (supposed to be 1MB/s, which it only does when it feels like it).
I cannot do more testing now (this is my vacation home and I am not longer there), but I seem to have detected and interference between the phone(s) and the dsl line.  Yes, I have filters, properly installed, My house is far from the central (I remember a technical saying: "Never again" after the installation), and I suppose the dsl signal is rather weak.  So, this would point to something else than the OBI, although of course, it was not easy to diagnose.  In a way, this is good, as understanding the real causes is the only way to find a solution, and I'd rather it not be a problem with the OBI ... :)
