Strange Calls With Strange Callerids That Should Not Be Ringing The Phone

When I initially set up the obi, I went to the website and
registered the device, using the 9-digit number on the bottom.

But I decided I would rather use the obi just as an ATA for now,
so I disabled the 'obitalk service' in the obi, but forgot about
having registered the device on the website.

Yesterday and today the phone rang with callerids of '9000' and
'1001'. I answered today but there was no reply and the phone
continued ringing after I put it back on hook.

The obi history shows a call came in via SP1, which is registered
to my main voip provider, but there is nothing in the call logs of
the provlder.

Am I guessing right that the calls could have been coming directly
to the ATA because of the website registration?

I went back to the obi website and deleted the registration for
the device and hope that will do the trick of keeping the kids out
of the phone. I could not delete the 'softphone', but assume that
is not a problem.

Obi must have ways of filtering such connections, but if deleting
the registration works I will leave it at that until I am more
familiar with the device.

If the registration is not the reason the calls are ringing the
phone, is there something else in the obi's configuration that I
should change?

Thanks for any replies.

You are the victim of a SIP scanner. Since you are not having OBiTalk set up your provider, you don't get the benefit of the changes that OBiTalk has made in the setup for some providers.

Thank you. I used method 4 to put the authid in each of the three SPx voip providers I have registered with the Obi. They all seem to work, so I guess I am set.

One question: why / how have the sip scanners suddenly started showing up on my phone only since I started using the Obi? I have used ATAs for years and have never had a call ring through that could not be explained by my filters or lack of them.
