WRT45G wireless to wired bridge for Obi 100

Anyone know how to set up a Linksys WRT54G to accept wireless signal from wi-fi and allow computers to be hooked up to it via Lan for internet access?  I have to move my Obi100 out of the room where the router is.  I heard the obihai wireless USB device isn't the greatest. Plus I need to plug up a computer to it that doesn't have wireless.

I'm not sure if I understand what you want to do.
Do you want to use the WRT54G as a bridge and connect it wirelessly to another router?
If this is correct you need to install new firmware on the WRT54G.

The linksys mentioned is a router that accepts an ethernet cable in and routes to 4 hardwired ethernet ports.  It can also wifi out to 256+ devices.

IF you were hooking usb devices together you might have a problem, but not with ethernet.  Simply wire your ethernet devices together and you won't have this problem ("I heard the obihai wireless USB device isn't the greatest").

If your computer doesn't have wireless, then it is probably a desktop.  Regardless, most computers do have an ethernet port; use it.


You might want to elaborate a little more on what you are trying to accomplish.  I, too, have a few questions in my mind as to why you are experiencing trouble and what you are really trying to accomplish.

What I wanted to do is depicted at the top of the page here:

I was able to accomplish it yesterday by using DD-WRT third party firmware for an older WRT-54g v6.0 we had.  The factory firmware does not support this.  So now I have a main router that transmits wi-fi in the house,  the secondary router picks up the signal and communicates with the main router wirelessly.  The Obi100 is connected directly to the 54-g via lan cable.  The WRT-54g has great reception.

First I followed the instructions below to change the firmware on the WRT-54g:

Then I followed these instructions to set up the bridge on the WRT-54g.

It took me a while and I had to learn a bit more about routing and IP addresses, etc but it worked.
I really like my Obi. (I'm not an employee or friend of any of these folks described)
