Amazing OBi200 for 29.99 at Newegg with promo code EMCPAWW99.  Limit 2 per customer.  I wasn't going to replace my OBi100 until I found a super deal on the 200.  That day is today YES!

Google finally released free voice calling in Hangouts yesterday, and Obi goes on fire sale today.  Coincidence?

SteveInWA

Yes, coincidence.

Google announced a new version of the Android Hangouts app that incorporates (merges) many of the Google Voice features, including VoIP calling, that were already available on Hangouts for laptop/desktop computers, and on Apple iOS devices.

This doesn't have any relevance one way or the other to the inherent value of the OBi devices.  If anything, it just shows that Google is continuing to invest in the Voice and Hangouts services.

I think this is a great price for a high-quality ATA, regardless of whether it's used with GV or a SIP ITSP.

Agreed.

Just ordered my OBi200 from Egg for $29.99 with promo code. Thanks!

Will be nice to now be eligible for Ring.to if I decide I want to use them.

Well. today Obihai announced official support for Google Voice, so that should end all the speculation.  I was wrong.  The Obi200 for $30 is a tremendous bargain, and I would recommend it to anyone who wants free (or cheap) home phone service.

If I don't have a need for the USB port and I don't use any other SIPs, is there any benefit to be gained by upgrading from Obi100 to Obi200?  It's nicer looking, but probably not going to upgrade if that's all I gain.  Is sound quality better, less echo?

Perhaps, if one wants to use Ring.To as a (free) service provider (free to Obi devices bought after 5/2014, but check if that deal is still valid for these discounted Obi200's).  Otherwise, probably not.

Also one can fax with T.38 on the 2xx series.

The obi200 ordered from newegg came today, hooked it up in five minutes.

Interestingly, it shipped with firmware version 4367, which is newer than what's currently available to download. Working nicely so far with no problems. I like this model since now it's possible for me to have a backup service and e911.

Actually, version 4420 has been available for awhile now:

There's all kinds of versions floating around apparently. The latest I saw on the official firmware was 4350 but another newegg customer posted today shipped with 4420. Mine is working perfectly so I'm going to leave it be for now.

Is the sale still on?  For some reason, the promo code is not working for me.

LeoKing

The sale ended on 9/14. Mine also came from Egg with firmware 4420.

I ordered 2 but had to finagle a bit as they have issues shipping t oa PO box and I have 4-wheel drive on my property.

It came a couple/3 days later by Fedex. The guy called and said he was up at the top so I got on the ATV...

I had to upgrade to get GV set up and the upgrade never seemed to finish butm I did receive a dialtone finally when going offline. GV also took a bit to authenticate, but did.

A happy camper though.

I have a PO BOX too and in most areas if you apply to use their street address (there's a form) you can then get FedEx to the post office. My 200 came in via UPS to my PO Box. It's called competitive box service.

LeoKing

Newegg shipped the OBi200 to me via DHL Global Mail => USPS.

SteveInWA

Ha ha:  in my case, Newegg used UPS Mail Innovations -->USPS.  Newegg must have some sort of least-cost algorithm to pick the carrier based on your destination address.

I hate those hybrid carrier-->USPS shipment methods, but if it helps keep the USPS in business, then thumbs up.
