While setting up Voip.Ms I originally had problems calling myself (in Hawaii). Turns out you have to enable International dialing :-) Hawaii is not listed in the International countries.

Just a heads up.

WTF!  ???

Well, given that they're a Canadian company, maybe they missed that elementary school history lesson on Hawaii becoming the 50th state in the USA.

Aloha!

It has to do with call routing. Perhaps because the calls end up going through the underseas cable headed towards Japan.

Yeah, I suspect the call completion charges are a bit higher in Hawaii, just as some providers have "challenges" in completing calls to continental US rural locations.  Does voip.ms state "lower 48" when they say US?

I wonder if the FCC considers Hawaii to be a rural location as far as their recent rules changes which require call completion, and allow you to file formal complains with the FCC for failure, or whether Hawaii (and probably Alaska) are exempt from those rules?

I will note that most of the US <> Japan cables do not have a landing in Hawaii (Australia or New Zealand routes, on the other hand).  JUS is the only one that I recall that does.

Thank you very much for the personal email. I think now that voip.ms is who I will go with. They've been around a long time & they don't seem to be as complicated as GV, also, GV keeps changing things which makes me think the service is not reliable.

PS. If anyone else reads this post, I would like to thank all who have taken the time to help me!!!!!!
