Title: OBi110 and ARRIS SB6183
Post by: fromdakota on August 13, 2015, 02:07:23 PM
Would OBi110 work with a modem such as Motorola ARRIS SB6183 (DOCSIS 3.0) which does >NOT< support telephony functions? Of course, between OBi110 and SB6183 there would be a router.
Thank you.

Yes.  Cable modems can have an optional, built-in VoIP function, that is controlled by your cable company to provide telephone service.  In your case, instead of using the cable modem's own VoIP function, you are connecting an external VoIP adapter (the OBi box), and the router simply sees it as yet another TCP/IP client on your network.  Instead of getting telephone service from the cable company, you will sign up with Google Voice, or a SIP VoIP service provider.

I use Motorola Arris SBG6580 (DOCSIS 3.0) with multiple Obi110.

Good Luck!
