Title: question about a configuration
Post by: sandb on June 27, 2016, 07:31:54 PM
I have an obi200.  I noticed on my device's webpage that I can configure it to use srtp if I wish to do so.  If I enable it to use srtp, would this encrypt my voice calls?

Yes but encryption requires support at both ends.

There are 3 options for the X_SRTP setting. They are explained in the Admin Guide.  Go to http://www.obihai.com/OBiDeviceAdminGuide and search the page for X_SRTP.

Ok, from asking voip service providers some questions, it is starting to look like the voip service provider i use needs to support it as well.  So, to expand on my question, does anyone know any voip providers that support srtp?  I won't do me any good for me to enable it on my obi if the service provider doesn't support it.

For most people the majority of their calls are with 'conventional' phones that are not connected by IP.  The RTP or SRTP voice packets must be converted to and from POTS/cellular technology at some intermediate point.
