I have the following:
1)Obi 202.
2)gmail account (USA)
3)google voice number (USA)
4)router in said country
5)simple phone to use with Obi
6)ability to VPN back to USA

Not sure if GV setup of Obi would run into any issues. Seems like I have all my basis covered.

But am I missing anything?

Seem like you have enough to try it and answer your own question. I'd suggest trying without using the VPN.
