Title: Install on a telephone switch - and thanks!
Post by: alab310 on October 19, 2017, 04:31:31 PM
Obi200. I have had this device for awhile now and successfully configured gvoice and have a telephone number which is all good. I want to connect to a telephone switch box. I do not receive a dial tone after connecting. What do I need to do?

I tried searching the forum but did not find an answer. And thanks for any help!

"telephone switch box" is not sufficiently informative. Can you provide a link to details of the specific item and explain what you are hoping to achieve.?

I did some research and found this:

http://www.americantelebrokers.com/panasonic-vb42020-dbs616-ksu-refurbished.html

Link to the manual:

I do see it it not voip capable as is. If I cannot use the Obihai, can you suggest a voip capable unit and still being able to use the phone I currently have installed?

And thanks!

That is a small PBX that goes between analogue phone lines and analogue or digital phones - not IP phones or ATAs.  You still have not explained what you want to do with it or what extra features/facilities you are seeking over and above those available from your existing OBi200 plus one phone.

The phone jack on your OBi200 emulates a phone line.  You can connect that directly to one of the 3 or 6 CO inputs on the Panasonic.  You can use an ordinary phone cord to connect to CO Line 1 or CO Line 4.  If you want to use any of the other CO Line inputs you will need a custom wired cable.  Use the centre two pins on the plug into the OBi and see Figure 8 on page 12 of the manual for the pins on CN1 or CN2 of the Panasonic.

Thanks for the quick response!

What i want to do is just connect the Obihai unit to replace the basic service I receive from Frontier that I have now. I want to distribute the single line I have installed now for my residence. Later I'd like to upgrade the Obihai unit so that multiple lines can be accessed as I have a home/office. I have 150/150 fios so I believe bandwidth will not be a problem.

See my edited reply above.

If you later replace the OBi200 with an OBi202 you can use a standard 4-conductor phone cord between the PHONE1 jack on the OBi202 and CN1 on the Panasonic.  The PHONE1 jack is wired with both circuits.  The 202 will provide CO Line 1 and CO Line 2.

Done!

I want to thank you for the help! CO 1-3 does not connect however CO 4-6 does. I originally tried the former as that is how the external jack was connected to the system. After opening the pbx, I found the CO 4-6 jack. And it worked.

Three kowtows and a thumbs up!
