Title: OBI 200 - Failed to connect to your device.
Post by: gyiTalk on February 28, 2018, 05:25:44 AM
I followed the tutorial for installation of OBI200. I did not select Google Voice. I sent the star code to the server. The registration process timed out with this notice:

Failed to connect to your device.

Any ideas?

Dial the echo test number **9 222 222 222.  Does that work?

I am able to do an echo test.

I also found this documentation in self-help support:
https://www.obitalk.com/info/support/troubleshooting > Solid Green > "Unable to add device to OBiTALK"

I followed instructions for
* echo test
* updating firmware (now at 3.2.1 build 5757EX)
* modifying the DNS to 4.2.2.2

Unfortunately, I am still not able to register my device.

You said "I sent the star code to the server."  What happens, in detail?  Do you enter the code preceded by TWO stars, like **5xxxx?  If not, you're doing it wrong.  If so, do any progress messages display, and/or does the screen show that it sent the command to the server?

Also:  Change your DNS to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4, which are Google's high-performance DNS.

On my phone (connected to OBI200) I dialed "* * 5  W X Y Z"
Server responded that the code has been sent to the server.
I hung up the phone.
I watched the registration page count down to 0 seconds.
A new page loaded saying, "Failed to connect to your device."

In any case, the issue is now resolved: I sent email to support with OBI Device ID and my Obitalk account. Support did the registration for me.
