Title: Obi100 losing registration
Post by: vanhalen26 on November 05, 2018, 10:50:29 AM
My trusty obi100 has been working well for years, but now it's struggling to maintain registration.

I removed my voip.ms account from it, added it back, rebooted the modem for good measure - and it started to work again. Then an hour later it failed and I could only get it to register by rebooting again.

Is hardware failure an issue with these?  I wonder if it's just time to upgrade.

Thx

Without another device to test whether it's a device problem or a service provider (voip.ms) problem, or an ISP problem, etc, there is no way to know why it's failing.

All I can say is, yes, hardware does "wear out" after many years, meaning that capacitors can degrade and fail, power supplies can go bad, and components can be degraded by repeated power surges.

If I were you, I'd wait for the inevitable "black Friday" sales and upgrade to an OBi 200.

It may not help you, but I was having registration issues with a 1062. I could watch the failure of registrations and then they would register themselves correctly later. I found the internet cable to the phone had been replaced with a flat cable and thus was not very well shielded, if at all.

If I was having registration issues, I would at least try swapping out the internet cable just to see if this is a corner case issue.
