Title: I want same GV number on Two OBI Devices at separate locations
Post by: Shayne on October 13, 2011, 04:00:47 AM
I love the OBI Device so much, I purchased a second one.
Now I have one at my home and one at my office.
I setup the devices with my home GV number and my work GV number.
Device 1 has #___-0123 as SIP 1 and device 2 has #___-0123 as SIP 2.
When that number is called, device 1 rings, but device 2 does not.
Is there a setting to allow both devices to ring when calling my GV number?

GV will only ring the last thing that registers to it, whether it be OBis or Google Chat, this is a GV limitation. But you can link up your 2 OBis to have the 2nd one also ring when a call comes into your GV on the main OBi.

Do you know how I would do this? Are there instructions somewhere? I just got my second device this week.

Thanks

Assuming OBi #1 has your home Google Voice number configured on its SP1 and and OBi #2 has your work Google Voice number configured on its SP1...

OBi #1:

Voice Services -> SP1 Service -> X_InboundCallRoute : {ph,pp(ob200222222)}

OBi #2

Voice Services -> SP1 Service -> X_InboundCallRoute : {ph,pp(ob200111111)}

where 200111111 is the OBiTALK number of OBi #1 and 200222222 is the OBiTALK number of OBi #2.

When either OBi gets a call on its Google Voice number, it will ring the local phone and the phone on the remote OBi.

No matter which registers the server at the last moment, it always calls the opposite OBi1xx device.

You shouldn't be trying to configure a Google Voice account on multiple OBi's.  It's not going to work consistently/reliably.

RonR or anyone else,

On device #1, which is at my house, I have:

SP1 - home GV # (xxx-0103)
SP2 - work GV # (xxx-0123)

On device #2, which is at my work, I have

SP1 - work GV # (xxx-0123)
SP2 - other GV # (xxx-0101)

What would I do for being able to have work GV # (xxx-0123) ring both devices in the current setup I have?

Thanks,

Shayne

What you GV#s are doesn't matter, the OBi devices use the OBiTalk network to link, thus you use your OBi # which is on the sticker on the bottom of the device. Just put add OBi #'s into the config options RonR outlined. This will link your devices over the ObiTalk network and allow both OBi's to ring when your GV# is called.

Shayne,

Comfigure one GV account on SP1 of one OBi and the other GV account on SP1 of the other OBi.

Do NOT configure both GV accounts on both OBi's.

Then set the InboundCallRoutes as I outlined.

Calls to either GV account will ring both OBi's.

When I add, {ph,pp(ob200222222)} in the X_InboundCallRoute box, I uncheck the default tick to enter info, but after I hit submit changes, then reboot device, it goes back to the setting, ph and default tick is ticked.

Any ideas?

Set System Management->Auto Provisioning->Method: Disabled
Save, then put your routing change back in, save & reboot.

Ok, I got that to hold.

Also, I have 3 different GV numbers.

Does your instructions mean, I can only use 1 GV number per OBI device? Each of my GV numbers have separate logins at google.com/voice.

You can put up to two GV accounts on an OBi.  You just can't use a GV account in more than one configuration.

You can have two GV numbers on one OBi (if you don't use a SIP provider), but you cannot directly register the same GV number on more than one OBi.

However, an incoming GV call can be forked to up to three other OBi devices.

So, then would this work?

On device #1, which is at my house, I have:

SP1 - home GV # (xxx-0103) - this number only used once
SP2 - work GV # (xxx-0123) - this number used also on device #2

On device #2, which is at my work, I have

SP1 - work GV # (xxx-0123) - this number used also on device #1
SP2 - other GV # (xxx-0101) - this number only used once

Or do you mean,

On device #1, which is at my house, I have:

SP1 - home GV # (xxx-0103)
SP2 - other GV # (xxx-1351)

On device #2, which is at my work, I have

SP1 - work GV # (xxx-0123) --------> with your notes, I can get this one to also ring, device #2 at xxx-1351
SP2 - yet another GV # (xxx-0101)

Just want it to ring on both devices.

All trunks (SP1, SP2, OBiTALK, and LINE Port) have their InboundCallRoutes set by default to ring only the PHONE Port : ph

You can have any of these also ring another OBi's PHONE Port using the OBiTALK Service by replacing ph with {ph,pp(ob200123456)}, where 200123456 is the OBiTALK number of the OBi you also wish to ring.  You can ring up to four destinations total : {ph,pp(ob200111111),pp(ob200222222),pp(ob200333333)}

Hi Ron,

I've set it up as you said (below) with two different GV numbers.  But it rings OBI phone #1 only one time before going to OBI phone #2.  Is there another setting that needs to be changed to allow BOTH phones to keep ringing?

Also, I noticed that the OBI Attendant now answers, requiring the caller to type "1" to continue.  Why is that and can that be disabled?

Lastly, I think because the OBI Attendant now answers, the phones no longer ring all the listed phones (e.g., my cell phone) on Google Voice.  So this setup seems to be eliminating that key feature of Google Voice.

Thanks in advance.
Gary
OBi #1:

Voice Services -> SP1 Service -> X_InboundCallRoute : {ph,pp(ob200222222)}

OBi #2

Voice Services -> SP1 Service -> X_InboundCallRoute : {ph,pp(ob200111111)}

where 200111111 is the OBiTALK number of OBi #1 and 200222222 is the OBiTALK number of OBi #2.

When either OBi gets a call on its Google Voice number, it will ring the local phone and the phone on the remote OBi.

gckorn,

You apparently have the OBiTAK InboundCallRoute set to go to the Auto Attendant.  The default is:

Voice Services -> OBiTALK Service -> InboundCallRoute : ph

which would ring the PHONE Port and not go to the Auto Attendant.  It's the Auto Attendant answering that stopping the PHONE Port from ringing on the first OBi.

Hi Ron,

I changed OBiTALK service to:

Voice Services -> OBiTALK Service -> InboundCallRoute : ph

It still does the same thing, 1 ring, then the Attendant answers, then accept with 1 then it rings other phone only (with no ring through to GV when no answer).

I did notice a number of red exclamation points.  I can list these for you if they matter.

Please do email your phone number to me at gckorn@gmail.com if we can possibly go over this.  It should work.

Thank you,
Gary

Gary,

I don't use the OBiTALK Web Portal for configuration.  If you really must use it, here are the instructions:

OBi Expert Configuration (Introduction) (http://www.obitalk.com/forum/index.php?topic=458.0)

It's a whole lot faster and much simpler to just log into the OBi directly and configure everything there.

If you do configure the OBi directly, you must disable Auto Provisioning:

System Management -> Auto Provisioning -> ITSP Auto Provisioning -> Method : Disabled
Title: Re: I want same GV number on Two OBI Devices at separate locations
Post by: gckorn on October 19, 2011, 03:56:26 PM
Ron,

1.  I don't know how to login to the OBI device directly.

2.  Most folks would assume the web access is the way to go since that is what is presented when you login to OBI.

3.  I seem to have figured out the web access route settings:

a.  On the web interface, do NOT modify OBiTALK Service > InboundCall Route.  It should remain as is, and include a bunch of numbers (it gets these from the SP1 Services settings per Ron's earlier instructions).  If you modify it to "ph" it won't work, even with step B below.

b.  BELOW OBiTALK Service on the web interface is another item called AUTO ATTENDANT.  On THAT item, simply uncheck the first item, which is called "Enable" . . . i.e. as you said, AUTO ATTENDANT needs to not be enabled.

c.  With this change, I also found that it now also rings my cell phone.  So Google Voice is working too (it apparently had been stopped by the OBI Auto Attendant).

UPDATE:  Well, the above worked 1 time, then it stopped working.  AutoAttendant is back.

Garry,

Do you have anything configured on your OBi's but a different Google Voice account on each?
Title: Re: I want same GV number on Two OBI Devices at separate locations
Post by: gckorn on October 19, 2011, 04:09:28 PM
Ron,

I'm parsing through this.  OBI #1 settings work fine as I listed them, i.e., AutoAttendant gets turned off and all phones ring (including GV forwarding to cell phone).

The problem occurs if I then set OBI #2 the same way.  At that point, when a call comes into the GV number connected to OBI #1, OBI #1 rings 1 time and the auto attendant comes on the line, which also blocks ringing of cell phone listed on GV.

So the issue is that the OBI #1 settings will work to turn off Auto Attendant, but when the same is done to OBI #2, auto attendant seems to become active again.

Each OBI is connected to an entirely different GV account.

Garry,

You're taking entirely the wrong approach to fixing this.  The Auto Attendant should NOT be disabled in any OBi.  The problem is incorrect OBiTALK InboundCallRoute rules routing OBiTALK Service calls to the Auto Auto Attendant.

It's random.  Sometimes the Attendant picks up.  Sometimes it doesn't

Hi Ron,

OK.  I've re-enabled auto attendant for both OBIs.  The setting you suggested for the OBITalk service (just ph) doesn't work.

I guess I need to find someone from OBI who is familiar with the web interface, since that is all I have.

Here's my suggestion:

Go the OBiTALK Web Portal and delete both OBi's.  Do not re-enter them.

Using a paper-clip, depress the reset button in the bottom of each OBi and hold it for at least 30 seconds to return them to factory default settings.

Dial ***1 to determine the IP address of each OBi and log in using admin/admin.

Then configure each OBi as follows:

Both OBi's:

System Management -> Auto Provisioning -> ITSP Auto Provisioning -> Method : Disabled

Service Providers -> ITSP Profile A -> General -> Name : Google Voice
Service Providers -> ITSP Profile A -> General -> SignalingProtocol : Google Voice

Voice Services -> SP1 Service -> AuthUserName : (Google Voice username)
Voice Services -> SP1 Service -> AuthPassword : (Google Voice password)
Voice Services -> SP1 Service -> X_SkipCallScreening : (checked)

Physical Interfaces -> PHONE Port -> PrimaryLine : SP1 Service

OBi #1:

Voice Services -> SP1 Service -> X_InboundCallRoute : {ph,pp(ob200222222)}

OBi #2

Voice Services -> SP1 Service -> X_InboundCallRoute : {ph,pp(ob200111111)}

where 200111111 is the OBiTALK number of OBi #1 and 200222222 is the OBiTALK number of OBi #2.

Hi Ron,

I figured out the direct access (via ***1) and logged in directly to the OBI.  However, the command you identified is not listed.

If you have updated your router to firmware v1.3.0 (Build: 2586), then expand System Management in the left pane and click on Auto Provisioning.  In the right pane, come down to ITSP Auto Provisioning and uncheck the Method Default checkbox.  Then select Disabled.  Then click Submit at the bottom of the page.  Then click Reboot in the upper right corner.

Thanks Ron.  It is just ITSP Provisioning, not ITSP Auto Provisioning.  I made the change, rebooted, not working yet.  Allow me time to work on it.  Thank you for your help.

Hi Ron,

Your instructions (removing from the web and doing it all via the device IP itself) seem to be working!  I've done 1 device so far.  The other will have to wait until I'm physically present. But so far it's working!

Thank you!
