Title: Registering Obihai device and GV setup - something to try
Post by: Udit on February 08, 2021, 12:58:25 AM
Hello All,
After trying for a while to register the device - here is what worked for me.
Find the device IP address and add it to DMZ zone on the Internet router.

You can remove the device from DMZ after the setup is complete.

Hopefully this helps.

Thanks!

There is no reason to remove the device from DMZ. Just don't enable web access.
I keep it there all the time, to be sure I have stable service.

In almost all cases that is bad advice. All unsolicited incoming traffic will be directed to the OBi.  Unless your router is really cr*p it is much better equipped to deal with attack than an OBi.

And what exactly do you mean by "don't enable web access".

You probably can disable access from the wan port in the 202. That might require that you be in the router mode. Don't know. I suppose you could set the 200's http access port to an obscure, high numbered port and use a good password but it would still be iffy. My Obi is behind my router but I changed the port in the Obi and use a decent password for security anyway. Can't have too much security.
