This probably isn't a big deal as most of us use the GV app on our smartphones, but if you are traveling with spotty data coverage as we do here when we hit the Arizona mountains, you may want to give out your actual cell number to receive urgent calls and SMS to relevant family and friends or at least take advantage of some other call treatments through CallCentric or other providers to get urgent calls or texts through to you.

Apparently many carriers are blocking these messages, so Google does not want to invest in forwarding anymore. This does not affect call forwarding.
