I purchased a 1062 from Amazon (a reseller). The phone stats are:

5.1.11  4983EX.1311
Hardware: 1.4

and seemed to be brand new.

Three times now I have found the phone with no screen lit, no functions work and the message waiting indicator is solid Red.

The first two times I did the factory reset (power off, hold HOME and BACK button for 10 sec after power on) and then reconfigured the phone.

Yesterday the phone was dead except for the MWI. I did the above reset but let go after a few seconds and the phone rebooted properly but did not require reconfiguration. I assume it was a soft reset?

This phone says no update is available.

Anyway, my other OBI (quite old) is Hardware level 5.1 and  5.1.11 4858EX.1311 and has never had this problem.

Should I try downgrading the 1.4 unit to a different version or might it be an intermittent hardware issue?

I have two Obi 1062's with the same version software and hardware and have had absolutely no problems.  I wonder if you possibly have received a defective unit previously returned by another customer.

I logged into that Obihai account where the device is registered and it shows the warranty is still in effect.

I emailed them with my troubleshooting (It does not reboot now at all) and they are shipping me a replacement.

Sign me, Happy Camper, for a quick resolution.
