Title: No response from service provider
Post by: billbrew on December 07, 2022, 12:53:06 PM
Alllights are on on my obi200 but will not configure google voice for the phones to work. Is obihai down?

You registered here more than four years ago but this is your first post so I assume that your OBi has been working OK for most of that time.

Reconfiguring an OBi which has been working with GV would not be my first course of action if it suddenly stopped working.  What other troubleshooting steps did you take?

Can you reach the echo test announcement when you dial **9 222 222 222?

Message says there is no service to complete my call when I call the echo

Yes the unit has worked well for several years now

The unit says it is offline but when I try to configure it takes a long time and goes back to offline.

I was able to reach the echo test number a few moments ago so I think there is nothing amiss at obitalk.com and your problem is just that. Yours alone.

Try this.

1.  Disconnect power from the OBi.

2.  Disconnect power from your router.

3.  Wait 1 minute.

4.  Reconnect power to the router.

5.  Wait 3 minutes.

6.  Reconnect power to the OBi.

7.  Wait 1 minute.

8.  Try the echo test.

9.  If the echo test works, try a call via GV.

10.  Report back here with the result of the echo test and if applicable the GV call.

After following the procedure I tried calling the echo but got the message there is no service to complete the call. The dashboard said unit was offline. So, I reset and it is taking the usual long time to reconfigure. All three lights of the Obi were on before I started configuring the SP1. Now the phone light is off and it is still just configuring.

SP1 did go back to offline again.

I did not tell you to reset.

Report here what you hear when you dial ***1.

Put that address into a web browser and log in with admin as username and password.

At left side click on Status, then on System Status.

In the Product Information section is SystemTime correct?

Scroll down to the bottom.  What is under OBiTALK Service Status?

I cannot log in using 192.168.1.19. No passwords work. If I use 192.168.1.1 I can get to router and it shows obi200 as a client but no access time

Is the OBi connected directly to the router by ethernet cable?

To answer your question. My router only has one ethernet cable out and it goes to the modem. I go out from the wifi modem to the OBi200.

Your Obi does not appear to be reaching the internet.  Any recent changes to your network which might be responsible?

It is half past midnight here so there will be nothing more from me until your tomorrow.

In the past I had to buy a new obihai device once and a year or so ago Obi had a problem with GV. Could either of these things be the problem?

That IP address is not Google.  When you log in locally to that 192.168.1.19 address and look at System Status, what is in the DNSServer1 and DNSServer2 boxes?

DNSServer2   135.181.200.109
I have put that 135.181.200.109 into my OBi and calls to the echo test now fail.

For diagnostic purposes temporarily change the IP addressing to static with the values below.  First disable Obitalk Provisioning:

1.  Log in to 192.168.1.19

2.  Click on System Management

3.  Click on AutoProvisioning.

4.  In the Obitalk Provisioning Section the first line is Method.  Clear the tick box.  Then select Disabled from the drop down.

5.  Scroll to the bottom and click Submit.

6.  Ignore any prompt to reboot.

7.  On the left side click Network Settings.

8.  Under Internet Settings, clear the tick boxes to enable you to select/enter these settings:

AddressingType   Static
IPAddress  192.168.1.19
SubnetMask   255.255.255.0
DefaultGateway  192.168.1.1
DNSServer1   8.8.8.8
DNSServer2   leave completely empty

9.  Scroll to the bottom and click Submit.

10.  At top right click Reboot

11.  Wait 30 seconds then go to the System Status page again.  Does the Obitalk Service Status now show Normal.  If yes try the echo test number.

12.  Report back here.

If the echo test call succeeds this shows that the problem is the DNS address that your OBi is getting from somewhere.  The above is not a permanent fix as you will NOT be able to configure GV when the OBi is configured as above.

ObiTalk status normal and the echo test worked as supposed to.

I don't understand why your OBi is getting that DNSServer address.  When I use it for my PC and try to browse a web page on the internet I get an error page in Russian!

Is the computer from which you are posting here on the same LAN as the OBi?

Is your computer running Windows 10 or Windows 11?  If yes:

1. Hold own the Windows key and tap the R key.

2.  In the box type

cmd

then click OK.

3.  In the window that opens type

ipconfig -all

4.  One of the lines will be DNS Servers.  What address is there?

192.168.1.1

That is what the OBi should have as DNSServer when Method is DHCP.  Try putting AddressingType back to DHCP.  Then click Submit at the bottom and then click Reboot at top right.

Yea!!!  The dashboard said GV was connected, and I made a call and it worked. Thanks very much for your help.

You should now restore the OBitalk Provisioning Method to System Start and reboot.

I can now receive a call but I cannot make a call.

Should DNSSERVER1 be 8.8.8.8  or should it be left blank?

Blank.  When set to DHCP the values will be obtained automatically from your router.  The actual values will be shown in the Status screen.  See the attached images.  Your values will be different from mine but I expect that both DefaultGateway and DNSServer1 will be 192.168.1.1.
