Title: Use generic wifi dongle with Obi202?
Post by: cork2win on June 20, 2012, 05:39:26 PM
I have a generic wifi dongle laying around that I used to use with an old non-wifi computer.

Does anyone know if this will work with the Obi202 or whether the dongle they sell specifically for this device is required?

Thank you.

Hi cork2win,

Although I do not know for sure, I would highly doubt it.  My guess is that the ObiWiFi probably uses a Realtek chipset.  But I would imagine that the ObiWiFi is specifically designed for interfacing ("talking") with the Obi units.  If you find anything out on your own, do let us know.

However, my thoughts are that it is best to stick with the ObiWiFi unit when using it with an Obi,
