Title: obi110 gsm gateway..
Post by: rsriram22 on July 06, 2012, 11:00:24 AM
anyone around got any suggestions for a decent gsm gateway that obi110 can be connected to.. i have gsm rates cheaper than the PSTN rates where I am planning on installing obi110 (india)

my plan is to get a GSM card and put it in that gateway (or whatever gadget it is) and that gateway will be connected to the obi110 ...

i am looking at this right now on ebay -- http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Network-Fixed-Cellular-Terminal-GSM-Gateway-Dual-Band-Easy-Use-9w-/251100292364?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a76be650c

(it's already 900/1800 mhz compliant, so it should work for me)

Hi rsriram22,

Unfortunately, I have no experience in this department.  Stewart is most likely the Go To Guy for this type of a recommendation.

If it is of any help, here is a forum post along the same lines: GSM / cellular line (http://www.obitalk.com/forum/index.php?topic=2148.msg13806).

Hi,

Did you have any success with the above device? I am looking to do the same thing.

Thanks

Nope. What I tried during my recent trip there was to connect the traditional landline to the obi110. the post above this one seems interesting about obi202 and bluetooth thing.. may be i'll buy that one for my next trip...

airtel landline works great with obi110. i was able to make calls from USA by calling the obi110 (google voice) and then use airtel landline to make a call in india. call quality is fantastic..

Also, I was able to make calls to the POTS (line port/airtel), then bridge it to SP1(google voice) line and then call any US based number.. that was really cool.. the setting that needed to be changed for this was the InboundCallRoute. Set it to {aa} so that the user can dial 2 and then **1 nnnnnnnnnn # where the nnnnnnnnnn is any US based number. This allows my folks to talk to any US based number from virtually anywhere in india. wow.just wow.

Of course the OBi202 can connect to a GSM mobile phone (with a Bluetooth link) over OBi202's USB attached Bluetooth link.  The OBx 202 can pass a call to an OBi110.

i am lost on your setup recommendation. why would i need to connect an 202 to a 110 in a gsm gateway setup? it should be either 202 + Bluetooth phone (or) 110 + POTS/gsm gateway ... no?

Yes you are correct.  You would need to use the OBi110's analog FXO port to connect to a gsm gateway.  You would need to use the OBi202's USB attachment to connect to the OBi Bluetooth adapter.

Connecting the OBi 202 to a mobile phone is not exactly the same as connecting to a fixed gsm gateway.  Similiar results but not identical.
