Title: Need wireless router capability from Wi-Fi Dongle on Obi 202
Post by: smsgator on July 18, 2012, 10:28:26 AM
What's needed is for the Wi-Fi adapter to work in the opposite direction as well, adding wireless router/access point functionality to the Obihai 202.

Often you'll be in a hotel with wired Ethernet only, and you'll want to use a tablet or smart phone that has only wireless. Normally you bring along a travel router to solve this problem, but travel routers lack an ATA. You can load a VOIP application like onto a smart phone and make calls through the travel router, but it would be nice to be able to use an analog telephone as well.

There was one travel router that combined the two functions, the SMC SMCWTVG, but it's no longer available.

If there's an Obi 303, it should be like the discontinued SMC device and function, both as an access point and router when plugged into a wired Ethernet port, and as a target device that connects to a wireless host so the ATA functionality can be used from wireless networks.

OK, it's not OBi, but it sounds like it meets your needs and who knows, OBi might make one for us soon.
