Title: Connecting obi100 to computer via router or switch?
Post by: topsnop on July 20, 2013, 10:08:20 PM
Hello

I just bought the obi100. I have a Motorola SURFboard SBG900 that only has one ethernet port, which is connected directly to my computer. Because this modem also has a wireless router built in, can I just buy a basic ethernet switch such as the TRENDnet TE100-S5 5-Port Ethernet Switch, and plug the obi into that, while plugging the modem into the switch?

Or do I need to buy another router like the Linksys E1500 Wireless-N WiFi Router? If so, will the signals from the linksys router interfere with the wiresless router on my cable modem? Or does one trump the other? If I do go this route, do I have to reassign my other mobile devices that use wifi to the new Linksys router?

Thanks
AO

Looking up the SURFboard SBG900, it looks to me like you could use a switch.

Shale, thank you. Someone also emailed me telling me that a switch is fine. Thanks to both of you for taking time to help with a simple-minded question.
