Title: Can This be Done?
Post by: thepainter on September 10, 2013, 07:29:26 AM
I have a Bogen (ADP1) Doorbell that worked with my PBX setup where when pressed I could answer from any phone to find out who was there. I now am trying my hand at an Asterisk setup (incrediblepi) and would like to have the same functionality - Doorbell press = distinctive ring on Ring Group (all extentions). My thought behind this is to have the Bogen connected to the FXS port? on my Obi110 and set this up as an extension in my asterisk setup. I have asked this question in another forum (PBXIAF) and seems like it would work but I am not exactly sure how to go about it (I'm a novice but can follow specific directions well). Thanks for any help in advance.

FXS= Phone port; FXO= Line port. So yes.

Your intercom is made to act like a telephone instrument, and as such will need to plug into a Phone input. In http://www.obihai.com/OBiAdminGuide.htm search for "hotline" which describes how to let a phone dial a number by simply going offhook.

The OBi202 has 2 Phone jacks and no Line jack (unless you add OBiLine). Your OBi110 has one Phone jack, so I expect you are planning to have the call go out on the Line port to your "asterisk setup".

My thinking would be to register one of the 110's SPs as an Asterisk extension.  The door push then calls over the LAN to the Asterisk PBX.  The 110's LINE port would be used for any POTS traffic to or from the PBX.
