Hi All,
I have a Ooma Telo that has been working fine. I use it for phone and fax purposes... but the faxing was very inconsistent. Then ObiHai came out with the Obi 202 with better faxing capabilities\ so i bought it to separate the two. the Ooma for house calls and the Obi for faxes.
My issues is only one or the other can work on the same network. Different IP address (LAN). Diferent MACs of course.
Topology:
router> OOMA > Phone1Line2
router> ObiHai > Phone1Line1
router> Other Devices
As you can see everything is standard and is attached to the same ASUS n66 router. Both the Ooma and Ohihai go to the same phone that has 2 different lines.
The weird thing is I can only have one of the Ooma or Obi connect. Or else there is no dial tone.
Someone please help me in the right direction.
I suggest you troubleshoot by plugging a different phone into each device and report back.
Thanks for the help I got things working. But not exactly has I wanted.
I found that my ObiTalk 202 was occupying both phone lines. No matter how I arrange or set things up. Line 2 was always on because of the 202. So if I plugged it into line 1, it would take over both. So I moved it to line 2 and my Ooma to line 1.
For now it works.
Phone port 1 contains both lines. Port 2 only has line 2.
Whatever you plugged into phone 1 must have used all 4 wires.
There are 2 wire cords for telephones (my HP fax machines come with them) and there are adapters that only have the 2 wires that you could try.
I'll keep that in mind because I plan on getting an addition GV just for fax. I think that means I have to be plugged in port 1 for faxing to work.

Here is an expedient way to make a 2-wire phone cable: you can do surgery on a 4-wire cable to remove a small section of each of the 2 wires that make the outer pair on the connectors. That will result in a weak cord, so using Lavarock7's suggestion, of getting either a line splitter adapter or a pre-made 2-wire phone cord, is better. Looking through your existing cords may turn up a 2-wire phone cord. You could swap that one, if it is in use, with a 4-wire cord.
