Title: "translate" Disconnect tone
Post by: mrjoe on December 05, 2013, 05:59:39 AM
Please could someone help me find out what my Disconnect Tone is.

I have put a link to the tone below:

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/u17dg1gnc0q6pzp/MrhYq89U9S (https://www.dropbox.com/sh/u17dg1gnc0q6pzp/MrhYq89U9S)

I thought it was: 414-19;10;(.5+.5) but I'm trying lots of variations of it and it is not working.

thank you in advance

this is what I have been using: http://forum.voxilla.com/threads/translating-your-disconnect-tone.3929/ (http://forum.voxilla.com/threads/translating-your-disconnect-tone.3929/)

Together with some help from Stewart: http://www.obitalk.com/forum/index.php?topic=2521.msg16525#msg16525 (http://www.obitalk.com/forum/index.php?topic=2521.msg16525#msg16525)

Quote400-30;10;(.25+.25) means:

400 Hz, -30 dBm minimum level, plays 10 seconds, cadence is 0.25 seconds on, 0.25 seconds off.

The only parameters that need to be customized are frequency, on time and off time.

Opening the recording in an audio editor (Audacity is a good free one), you can easily measure on and off time.  Most editors can meaure frequency and/or show a spectral plot.  If yours can't, or if the signal is noisy, just zoom in and count the number of cycles in a short interval, e.g. 20 or 50 milliseconds.

You can use Audacity to analyze the tone.
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

Portable Apps (Audacity)
http://portableapps.com/apps/music_video/audacity_portable

Instructions on how to use Audacity to determine what you need with images. Note current version of Audacity looks slightly different than the version shown in the tutorial. You will get the idea.
VoiceGuide Online Help
http://www.voiceguide.com/vghelp/source/html/disconnectiondetect.htm

A quick look at your sound file shows me the frequency at 395 Hz (not 414 Hz as you mentioned).

thank you for that advice QBZappy.

I actually got 383 in my test using SIGVIEW.

which part of it could be causing the problem and what do you think is the margin of error that Obi gives?

Trial and error is the only thing I can suggest as obihai is unlikely to reply with that info. At least you have some numbers to work with and a plan of action. Good luck..

It looked like 400 to me on the one beep I analyzed. I also looked at the spectrum and saw a 200, since this may be square wavish, that makes sense.

Still haven't gotten this figured out.  It is very frustrating.

If anyone could help, I would be extremely grateful for their assistance.

I don't want to over simplify, but are you in the US and using a standard PSTN line? I left all of the tones at their default settings and have never seen an issue detecting disconnect since I think it was build 2690. Before that there were some issues. But I'm on a standard line from ATT.
