Title: Getting a message "Nobody is able to answer your call" after two rings on GV.
Post by: PaulMisner on September 13, 2014, 08:00:40 AM
Hi, I did the update the other day, and switched to Google Voice. It seemed to work fine, but now, when I get an incoming call, I get a message after two rings, "Nobody is able to answer your call" and it says that voicemail has not been set up. Voicemail has been set up. I tried calling my cell directly (also part of the outbound dials) and that seems to work. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Paul:

That doesn't sound like a Google Voice message to me, but rather, you are reaching a different forwarding phone number, which has its own voicemail.

Log onto your Google Voice account from a laptop or desktop computer, not from a mobile device, and look at your Phones settings page:  https://www.google.com/voice#phones

Look at the list of forwarding phones on the right side.  You likely have a telephone number on there that is grabbing the calls instead of Google Chat.  You either need to set up conditional call forwarding for that phone line, or you need to enable Google Voice's Call Screening feature on this page:  https://www.google.com/voice#callsettings

When Call Screening is enabled, it requires whoever or whatever answers the call to press "1" to accept  the call.  Since your other phone's voicemail system isn't human, it can't press 1, so GV will give up and snatch the call back into its own VM system.
