Title: Distinctive ring setup with Google Voice
Post by: zazspry on May 28, 2011, 09:54:58 AM
I'm seeking a way to identify specific callers through distinctive ring tones, using Google Voice.

Page 54 of the Admin guide describes setting up ITSP Driven Distinctive Ringing, but I don't comprehend the Alert-Info parameter which requires a URI, example:
    Alert-Info: http://www.xyz.com/some-folder/bellcore-dr4

Could someone kindly explain if this works with Google Voice, and if so provide an example configuration?
Many thanks.

An Alert-Info header would have to be inserted in the SIP INVITE sent by the SIP provider.  This cannot be done by the user.

Google Voice is not a SIP provider and does not use SIP INVITE's, consequently this is not possible with Google Voice.

The OBi provides 10 pre-defined distinctive ring patters to select from, and any or all of the can be redefined by the user as desired.  See page 95 of the OBi Device Administration Guide.
