Help configuring a Cisco 7940 with an Obi 202!

I recently acquired several Cisco 7940 IP phones and I have been having trouble configuring them with some of the online articles/posts I've found. Previously I was able to successfully set up a Cisco SPA504 with an OBI202 (using the LAN port on the unit). In the guides I've found, most of the examples use SPA phones and provision them through the Configuration Utility that you can access through those models (and that's also what I used to setup my 504), but I've discovered that the 7940's use a much more complex process for provisioning. Since those phones were primarily designed for the Cisco Call Manager, they aren't optimized for these types of applications. From other sources that I have found, the phone needs to be provisioned through an TFTP server and DHCP Option 66 which I am completely unfamiliar with. I also found that the software needs to be updated, conversion to SIP from SCCP, and all this really over-complicated stuff that I'm hoping there is an easier method for. On some forums I've found that people have been able to do it but I have yet to find any way to actually do it. I have attempted several different things but it seems way more complicated then I think it needs to be. There used to be an Obi blog post on how to use VOIP phones but I haven't been able to find it... I have been looking at this post: http://bit.ly/2cHtxOQ on Voxilla as a guide, but someone in the comments also mentions that they have been unable to use the 7940 either. I don't have that much knowledge in VOIP so this is a bit of a challenge for me but I was just curious to see if anyone has ideas on how I could get this set up. Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks a ton! :)

I can't help with configuring the 7940s.
