Using a cable splitter to connect to house wiring and phone simultaneously

It's it safe to use a telephone cable splitter to connect the obi to my house wiring and a corded phone at the same time? Seems like it would work, but I don't know what I don't know...

Yes that is safe provided the house wiring is properly physically disconnected from any other phone service. Lack of service from a previous company is not sufficient.
