Does Google know we're using Obi devices with Google Voice?

Do they even care?  I'm just curious. :)   Before I purchssed mine,
I read a review that said Obihai had to update its firmware to cope
with changes in Google Voice. Was that directed at Obi device
specifically?

Interesting question. Looking forward to seeing the replies on here.

My own opinion is they may know it's happening, but it's below the radar in the bigger picture of things they're doing with voice over internet.

I believe if you search the forum you'll find that the change that Google Voice made earlier this year happen to affect OBi.  It wasn't designed to affect OBi - because OBi responded within 24 hours and remedied the matter and it hasn't reoccurred.

CoalMinerRetired's comment is clearly correct - Google doesn't give a rat's behind what OBi is doing.  Way, way, way, way down the list.

As long as it doesn't affect their making money. Just look at Youtube and the Roku.

wait...  did Google buy Roku?  (haven't kept up with tech news lately)

maybe if Obitalk gets real big, with several hundred thousand users,
Google can make them a half-billion-dollar and buy the company? :D :D :D
put me in charge of Google's checkbook and I'll acquire Obitalk
by end of business day on Friday! :D Don't worry, I wan't rename
it to Goobitalk.:D :D

Or Goobertalk. The thing about Roku and Youtube is that the Roku had an app (unofficial) that could browse and show videos (without ads), so Google made them pull it.

I surprised google doesn't come out with there own VOIP device. I think they'd sell a ton of them. Plus, they would always be up to date firmware wise..

There's talk about Google launching mobile service late next year, data only. I'm sure GV will be used for voice and SMS. I hope it happens, can't wait for it, the end of being nickel'n'dimed for voice and SMS when everything really is just packets of data.
