RJ14 support in OBI100/110

It would certainly be nice if the 6P4C phone jack in the back of the OBi100/OBi110's were wired for a 2nd line (i.e., not just wired for RJ11, but for RJ14(*)), especially since my OBI supports two lines (SP1 and SP2) anyway.  SP1 could ring on line 1, and SP2 could ring on line 2.

With four pins in the Phone jack, it *appears* the 100/110 are wired for RJ14, but in actuality the outside pins are apparently not connected to anything, so the wiring is really just RJ11 (inner 2 pins).

Since the 100 and 110 already support the use of 2 phones (e.g., 2 Google numbers), it would seem a natural to build future versions (I know this would take a change in hardware and software) of the 100/110 so that they connect that 2nd Google (or other, SIP, etc.) line to the outside pins.

I have seen several posters with this question/request in the OBi forums.  Maybe even this request has already been made here.

Similarly for the 202: I also do know that nowadays we have the OBi202 box, which offers 2 separate 6P4C jacks.  Is each of these jacks wired for RJ14 (so you could have 4 physical lines total)? Or only RJ11 as well (thus only 2 physical lines total)?

The Phone 1 jack of the OBi202 is wired for 2 lines. The regular ph1 is on pair 1 (inner contacts) and the other pair on that 6P4C jack is in parallel with the Phone 2 (ph2) inner pair on the 6P4C jack labeled Phone 2. The other pair on that jack are open.

People sometimes get in trouble by plugging a 4-wire cable to the Phone 1 jack that has a load on the line 2 part that they don't know about, and then having problems with the device plugged into Phone 2.

The OBi202 only has circuitry for 2 phone lines. Such circuitry is not trivial. If you need more phones, there are ways to make multiple OBi boxes work together. I have not done so, and I have not studied the methods. There have been posts on the topic.

Adding a second phone port to the 110 makes it a non 110, but rather a different product.

Much software must be changed, perhaps the power supply increase (two real phones could ring at one time), and so on.

You can take a sports car and enhance it to carry more people, but then it is not a sports car (and won't perform as fast).
