I used to send outbound FAXes from my laptop using the built-in FAX modem and Windows application.  My new laptop has no modem so I tested sending a FAX via the Anveo website (Communication/Send a FAX).  A two-page FAX cost $0.02.  A minor issue is that .docx attachments are not supported.

I tried to configure inbound FAX using IVR/Call Flow Builder.  The key component is GOODIES which automatically distinguishes between FAX and regular calls - the former is routed to the RECEIVE FAX component while the latter follows the SIP/VOICEMAIL path.  I received errors after saving/validating the call flow relating to missing connections but could not figure out how to resolve the issues.  I used the 'Typical Small Business Call Flow with Fax and Auto Attendant' template and removed the components I did not need.  Although this call flow also did not validate, I was able to both receive FAXes (I resurrected my old laptop with a built-in FAX modem) and handle regular calls.  Both call flows validated today - no sure what changed.

I originally tried to test inbound FAX with https://faxzero.com/ or http://www.myfax.com/free/ - neither FAX arrived.  FaxZero claimed "... failed due to poor connection with device or recipient fax macvhine maybe outdated and incompatible", MyFax was silent on the issue.
